Julio Verne wrote the book "Around the World in 80 days". The imaginary journey started on the 2nd of October, 1882.
The main character is Phileas
Fogg. Phileas Fogg was a English gentleman. He travelled by hot-air balloon, boat, elephant, sleigh... He used all the types of transport that were available at the nineteenth century.
Mister Fogg started this trip because of a bet against his friends: he bet half of his money. He went to China, Africa, Russia, Argentina, Spain...
He finally won his bet.
